One of our client’s government projects around tax collection and public systems in a West African market saw a critical challenge presented in efficacy of collecting taxes from the informal, micro and small business segments. The sheer volume of these businesses made enforcement difficult, and the cost of tax collection was extremely high, often reaching 60% of the revenue collected. This made the process resource-intensive and unsustainable, leading to inefficiencies like leakages, revenue loss, and increased financial deficits. While traditional models failed to enforce compliance, other half-baked systems required up to five years for adoption and impact. A one-stop solution for all these problems was unavailable- a sustainable and replicable solution was the need of the hour.

Leading this project was both a challenge and a milestone in my journey. Navigating a domain as intricate as taxation pushed me to dive deep and stay agile. From sprint planning to cross-team coordination, it demanded sharp decision-making and constant adaptability considering the fast paced development cycle. Managing resources, timelines, and quality in a high-paced environment wasn’t easy but it sharpened my skills and reaffirmed what strong collaboration and structured execution can achieve.
